Weaving the story of her own ancestors' journeys from slavery to freedom in a speculative nonfiction tale, Professor Candice Harrison will discuss how a small, yet significant population of enslaved Black women used intimate relationships with white slaveholders to free themselves and their children in nineteenth-century Louisiana. Presented by The College of Arts & Sciences, this event will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 5:30–7 p.m. in Xavier Auditorium, Fromm Hall.
