For 30 years, AmeriCorps has played an important role in strengthening local communities while providing you with opportunities to grow personally and professionally. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, American Rescue Plan funding supported the growth of the AmeriCorps living allowance by 24 percent, which made AmeriCorps more attainable when our communities needed it most. But as investment in COVID relief efforts dwindles, now is the time to ensure support for AmeriCorps members endures and remains sustainable.
This weekend, Congress passed a continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown and fund federal programs through November 15, 2023. With only 45 days to pass a federal budget for FY2024, it is more important than ever that momentum of AmeriCorps and investment in AmeriCorps members are sustained. The most recent proposed budget from the House of Representatives included a 50% cut to AmeriCorps and elimination of all funding for AmeriCorps Education Awards. This reduction would be devastating to communities that count on critical services provided by AmeriCorps members.
