The Government of Canada’s CanExport SMEs program helps Canadian small- and medium-sized businesses expand into new international markets by covering up to 50% of eligible export development costs, with funding of up to $50,000 per project.
Activities supported include market research, trade show participation, partner development, and adapting marketing materials for new international markets. All things we can help with, by the way.
One of the key requirements is that businesses must explain how their product or services are of Canadian origin. For many, this will be a sticking point, but for Canadian manufacturers, it’s a leg-up; making Canadian products is
your specialty.
Some other quick ways to know if you qualify include whether you:
✔ Have 3–500 employees
✔ Generate $300K–$100M in revenue
✔ Have an active CRA business number
If you meet those requirements, you may want to check out the official readiness checklist here.
TIP: Many online program guides state that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis while funds remain available, so applying earlier in the intake window might improve your chances. That said, the deadline is May 29, 2026.
