Happy New Year RAIN family. As with every New Year, comes new goals and at RAIN that includes executing a newly approved strategic plan. During the course of 2023, the Board of Director’s worked with a consultant and the community to facilitate listen sessions, obtain feedback and construct a strategic plan for 2024 through 2026.
This year the staff will be busy implementing various strategies to enhance programs, increase community awareness about the relevancy of HIV, identify and engage new partners/donors, and invest in our staff. The plan outlines bold goals to meeting the mission of empowering people living with HIV and those at risk to be healthy and stigma free. Using a community centric approach and innovation in outreach and social media, RAIN is excited to get going. The road map created gives staff guidance while still allowing for flexibility within each goal.

A crucial part of the plan is the empowerment of our dedicated staff. This includes investing in staff retention, engagement, and professional development. Without our committed staff, our programs and services to the community would not be as strong as they are. Together, with your continued support, we can create a world where HIV and the impacts of stigma are minimized and eventually eliminated.
If you are interested in learning more about the plan, or how you can help, please contact me to schedule a meeting at c.gulden@carolinarain.org or donate here.
Thank you for being a crucial part of the RAIN family!

Medicaid Expansion Broadens Medical Access |

North Carolina expanded Medicaid December 1, 2023. Expanding Medicaid made full coverage accessible to more than 600,000 persons residing in North Carolina. Cardholders experience lower out of pocket costs for medications, medical appointments and procedures. Previous concerns about inability to afford medications and medical appointment copayments are no longer barriers to treatment, because waivers may help adjust costs to zero dollars. Benefits such as free over the counter medications, free cell phones, eyeglasses, fresh food and vegetables, and gym membership assistance are some of the additional benefits assigned to specific plans. A large number of RAIN clients are now eligible, and enrolled in various Medicaid plans. Individuals that still do not meet full Medicaid insurance requirements remain eligible for marketplace plans through the Affordable Care Act.
For more information about applying for Medicaid benefits, you can visit or call a local DSS office. Applications are available online at medicaid.nc.gov.

In December of 2023, the kiki ballroom House of Hendrixx partnered with The Drop to set up “Hoodies For Hope.” This is an initiative that allows community members to donate new or gently used winter gear such as hoodies, jackets, scarves, gloves, blankets, hats, toboggans, socks, and handwarmers. Spearheaded by Carolina Hendrixx House Father Donshawn Rountree and community leader Devin Cokley. The drive has gathered a generous amount of gear that will be sure to provide warmth, comfort, and care to humanity during the holiday season and beyond. The House of Hendrixx’s commitment extends beyond the ballroom industry as they strive to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals in need.
