FirstYear@ND: Your New Fall 2023 Edition

Welcome to your "FirstYear@ND Fall Edition"

This semester, you can expect to receive a new FirstYear@ND Fall Edition every other Tuesday.

Today: All are invited to join the Opening of the Academic Year Mass

All students, faculty, and staff are warmly invited to gather for the Opening of the Academic Year Mass as we ask for God's blessing on the year ahead. Join us at 5:15 PM in the Purcell Pavilion, Joyce Center. All are welcome!

Following Mass: All undergraduate students, regardless of meal plan, are invited to gather for dinner in North or South Dining Hall. Student IDs will be required.

This week: Give feedback on Welcome Weekend.

Later this week, you will receive an email with instructions to complete a brief survey on your Welcome Weekend experience. Your answers help Notre Dame continuously grow in our ability to embrace and encounter each student.

Sun., Aug. 27: Access to NOVO ends at 8:00 PM.

If you need to make changes to your course schedule after Sunday, Aug. 27, you will need to contact your First Year Advisor.

Tues., Aug. 29: Last day to change courses.

Tues., Aug. 29: Stop by Student Activities Night (7:00 PM - 10:00 PM in Notre Dame Stadium Concourse)

The Student Activities Office’s premiere recruitment event puts all of our undergraduate student groups in one place, making it simple and convenient for you to explore a myriad of student groups and find a community that is perfect for you.

Fri., Sept. 1: Look for an email from your Fall First Year Advisor.

In a few days, you will receive an email from your advisor for the Fall 2023 semester.

Some students will continue working with their advisor from the summer. Others will begin working with a different advisor.

Before Fall Break: Meet with your First Year Advisor

You and your advisor will meet for your Fall Advising Meeting before Fall Break begins (Oct. 13.)

Connect with Others

When you registered for your First Lecture, you had the option of indicating your interest in connecting with other first-year students who register for the same lecture. Here, we hope to help you initiate formative relationships with not only faculty, but also with each other.

Students who opted into connecting with others from their First Lecture received an email from Welcome Weekend on Aug. 19 with a unique link to join a First Lecture-based GroupMe.

Students who did not originally indicate an interest, but now wish to join their First Lecture's GroupMe can email whittington@nd.edu to request access.

It’s an arts crawl under one roof! Students can sample food trucks along with the diverse range of performing, cinematic, visual, and literary arts on campus while enjoying great student performances — all free, all the time — and brought to you by the Arts@ND group. Check out the arts scene on campus and bring art to your life!

When studying for a course, consider a layered strategy that begins with you and the resources available in your course and then works outward to other potential resources for assistance.

Notre Dame Studios is a multimedia technology and production resource for the Notre Dame campus community. NDS supports a variety of productions including athletics broadcasts, academic productions, faith-based programming, and cultural events.

In partnership with Fighting Irish Media, we offer a comprehensive student program for students to work in media-related roles. We typically employ roughly 150 students and are looking to hire a group of first-year students to add to our staff. Student employment is wide-ranging and requires approximately 5-20 hours per week.

Potential jobs include:

Live Production: Camera Operator; Replay Operator; Graphics Operator; Audio Operator; Broadcaster (Play-by-Play, Color)

Field and Post-Production: Videographer; Editor; Media Manager

Innovation and Design: Graphic Designer

Communications: Gameday (stats, etc.)

Engineering: Video Engineer
