| While they may have been forgotten in the dizzying events of this past month, the end of 2024 saw several extraordinary conservation finance achievements. Congress overwhelmingly approved - and former President Biden subsequently signed - the Explore Act that provides for equitable access to the outdoors for all (Outdoor Recreation Roundtable), enabling tribes to access federal funding and ensuring resources for underserved urban communities. And days later, the Department of Interior announced the protection of a critical inholding in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park (Department of Interior), a complex $100 million transaction engineered by the Grand Teton National Park Foundation with an impressive mix of public and private funding and a critical bridge loan from the Conservation Fund. On the other side of the country, protection of a community forest in Vermont illustrated the diverse and enduring legacy of conservation (Vermont Digger).
To understand how the federal funding landscape may be shifting and what it means for you, tune in to a CFN webinar February 14th on the state of federal funding for conservation (Register here), the first of our spring Nature's Returns webinar series. Watch for announcements of subsequent webinars.
Closer to home, the CFN is proud to announce the addition of four new members of our Steering Committee: Jessamine Fitzpatrick, JP Gibbons, Cherie Kearney and Rex Linville (more information). They join Margaret Bowman, Renee Kivikko, Carl Palmer and Peter Stein on the Committee which plays a critical role in guiding the work of the CFN. We are hugely fortunate to have such a distinguished group of leaders helping us navigate the path ahead.
