Showers Center Public Input Session
Council Member Devyn Keith joined City leaders at a listening session at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center on shaping future programming and amenities. Dozens of residents provided input on the need for additional multipurpose rooms as well as more parking, picnic tables and bike stations. It was a great turnout, and we look forward to seeing positive changes at this much beloved center.

Shurney Center Improvements
Big changes are coming to the second floor of the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center. Mayor Tommy Battle recently toured what will soon be a music-themed public makerspace. These upgrades aim to boost Huntsville’s music industry and enhance learning about various aspects of the business. Joining Mayor Battle were Council Member Keith, City Administrator John Hamilton, Music Officer Matt Mandrella and representatives from the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. This exciting project is set to foster the next generation of music talent, both on stage and behind the scenes.

Improving Public Transit
The ribbon has been cut on Huntsville’s new downtown transit center at 521 Pratt Ave, a project unanimously supported by City Council. When it officially opens Sept. 3, this modern facility will revolutionize public transportation and improve local quality of life. It features 14 bus bays, each 45 feet long, providing ample space for smooth boarding and disembarking. The ADA-accessible center includes spacious accommodations for wheelchair users, audio departure announcements and large platform displays. Alongside the upgraded facility, expanded service enhances the effectiveness and inclusivity of Huntsville's public transit system.
