Event Highlights: The 2023 Trustworthy AI for Education Lab Summit

The Trustworthy AI Lab for Education (TALE) Summit at Notre Dame was held on December 1, 2023 and brought together a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, computer scientists, learning scientists, and STEM education researchers across campus as well as external partners, to decipher how to build effective and trusted AI solutions for education.
|
For those that were unable to attend, poster abstracts and full recordings of the event are now available on the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society website.

| Lucy Training Workshop: Introduction to R

R is the most widely used programming language for statistical computing and graphics. It is free and open source. The workshop will demonstrate the scripting language and what it can offer as an analytical tool.
No prior knowledge is necessary. This workshop will be offered via zoom and is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. The deadline to register is January 22.

Python is open-sourced, interpreted, object-oriented, high-level programming language. It is easy to learn and very user-friendly because of its simple syntax and readable code. The best way to learn a programming language is to do something useful, therefore this hands-on introductory workshop will cover:

- Basic data types
- Creating and assigning values to a variable
- Using a function
- Import a Python library and use its functions
- Read tabular data from a csv file
- Select individual values and subsections from data
- Perform operations on arrays of data
|

| Lucy Training Workshop: Tidyverse in R

This workshop series is designed to give an introduction to the Tidyverse packages in R. Tidyverse is a set of R packages that comprehensively deal with data wrangling and visualization using a common syntax.
The workshop will cover some of the most common packages and functions in Tidyverse using a variety of social science data.

This workshop is designed as an introduction to linear regression in R. Linear regression is considered the “backbone” of quantitative social science and provides the grounding and framework for understanding advanced regression models. The topics covered during the workshop include:

- Wrangling data in R
- Model fit, statistical significance, and regression coefficient interpretation
- Visualizations of regression coefficients
- Testing OLS assumptions
