Thank you to the many students, staff, and families involved in The Showdown yesterday. This was such a fun experience for all! A special thank you to the Emily Goolsby and Tiffany Phillips for organizing the event and to the volunteers and coaches who made it happen. The band, cheerleaders, and basketball teams were comprised of current students, student alumni, staff, and parents. A great time was had by all and Zion’s buzzer beater earned the students a one-point defeat over the staff but an ending for all to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric! We appreciate the Lightning Athletic Club for organizing the event and finding so many parent volunteers to help. We love the opportunity to bring students and families from both campuses together. Events like these give us renewed energy as a school community. Let’s capitalize on this and continue to have a positive week building our community. We look forward to seeing many of you as we celebrate student learning at Exhibit Nights March 7th and 9th.

| Huge Playground Upgrades: NPMM has been awarded a large sum of money in Childcare Stabilization grant funds to spend on improving outdoor spaces and playgrounds (such as climbing structures, slides, rock walls, shade structures, pavilion, greenhouses, picnic tables, benches, fencing, outdoor classrooms, basketball goals, etc). $250,000 for the lower school and $275,000 for the upper school. If you are interested in serving on the CSG Steering Committee to provide input, ideas and work with vendors to obtain quotes and designs, please email me to express interest. We will be selecting staff reps & parents from LS and US to serve on the committee. The committee will meet throughout March and have all plans final by April 1.

The Lower School Playground is expected to be finished this week. We will have a Grand Opening on Friday, March 3rd. Students will all have the opportunity to play on the playground, have a sweet treat, and some music to celebrate. We have waited a long time for this, and we are all thrilled the time is here.

It's Time to Clean Out! Please talk with your child about exploring the lost and found on the lower school cafeteia. We have all types of items from coats, jackets, lunchboxes, hats, socks, and school supplies left in our lost and found bins/rack. All parents are welcome to view the lost lost and found during our Exhibit Nights.
All items will be donated to a local charity after Exhibit Night.

3rd Grade Explore Chattanooga State GCDI Lab3rd Graders explored bridge designs, types of bridges, and bridge parts. They discussed why trusses are made a certain way and identified decorations vs parts that are important to the structure of a bridge. Students had to design a bridge that could support 100 pennies. Students planned, then used the 3D pens to create the bridges.

| We are now collecting new and used clothes, shoes, school supplies, as well as hygienic products that we can distribute to students in need of such things. Students will be able to pick items that interest them/are needed. 4th grade went to the Tellus Science Museum to begin our learning on light. We also learned about fossils, panned for gold, looked at minerals, and watched enjoyed a show in the planetarium.

Feb 27 Volleyball tournament starts at Soddy High

Normal Park ClimbersLets give an extra special pat on the back to our Normal Park Climbers Timmy Andrews, Willa Petmecky, Logan Zhang, and Tilly Petmecky for qualifying for the end of season Individual competition. The individual competition was for all middle AND high school climbers that met the qualifying minimum score. Out of the hundreds of climbers in the ICL, only 64 males and 18 females qualified. An extra special congratulations goes to our own 7th grader, Logan Zhang for winning the end of season individual competition in the male category! He was able to out climb every high school and middle school climber at the meet. Nicholas Lathrop, a high school senior and former alumnus, finished in 5th place. Other notable mentions were former NP students Will Von Gremp (24th) and Brogan Capecchi (52nd). Timmy Andrews did not compete due to injury.
In the female category, a former NP student, Ella Goodyear, finished in 5th place and Willa Petmecky (8th grade) finished in 8th place, and her sister Tilly Petmecky (6th grade) finished in 16th.
Overall, the Normal Park climbing team and its alumni had a very strong showing this season.

Middle School Track and Field tryouts will be held from 3:15-4:45 pm on Monday, March 6th and Wednesday, March 8th. Please plan on attending both days. We'll meet behind the school on the athletic field. Bring a water bottle and dress for physical activity. Before they can tryout, all athletes must have an updated physical uploaded to Dragonfly. On Friday, March 10th, the final team roster will be posted on the school webpage. Practices will begin the following week and will be Monday- Thursday from 3:15- 4:45. Lightning Track:
Coach John Dorough and assistant Tiffany Phillips will be hosting elementary track evaluations, 3rd-5th graders, Monday March 6th, 6pm on the GPS track. Practices the first two weeks will be held at GPS on Monday and Wednesday from 6-7pm. Please complete the registration form if you plan to attend the evaluation. All student athletic must have an up physical (dated after 4/15/22), complete all forms within Dragonfly, and be cleared before running in the first meet.

NPMM Futures Baseball CampThe Normal Park Museum Magnet Futures Baseball Camp is a one-day instructional baseball camp for student-athletes Grades 2-5. The Camp will be led by the current Normal Park Middle School Baseball coaching staff along with reputable local instructors. The goal of the Futures Camp is to provide high quality baseball instruction, drills, and activities to future Normal Park baseball players. The camp will also serve as a day of preparation for student athletes as their spring seasons get underway, introduce athletes to the Middle School coaching staff, and foster enthusiasm for the Normal Park baseball program.

BLOOM! NPMM: How does your garden grow? First grade is about to start a new adventure during Quarter 4. The students will be involved in project/problem-based learning and will be designing & planting a native plant garden in our school yard. This is a new challenge for us. So, we need all the help we can get. Any amount of help is appreciated. Advice, knowledge, time/assistance, garden tools, large garden rocks, or more.
