Upcoming Changes to the Biographical Sketch and Other Support Format Page!
NIH expects applicants and recipients to use the updated biosketch and other support format for applications, Just-in-Time (JIT) Reports, and Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) as of May 25, 2021. NIH will require the use of the updated format pages for the previously mentioned submissions for anything on and after January 25, 2022. Failure to follow the appropriate formats on or after January 25, 2022 may cause NIH to withdraw applications from or delay consideration of funding.
Full details with updated Biosketch Form and OS format availble here:
Announcement of Childcare Costs for Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA) Individual Fellows
In April 2021, NIH began providing childcare cost support to recipients of full-time NRSA fellowships in recognition that the high cost of childcare impacts graduate students and post-doctorates funded through NRSA fellowships, and hinders their ability to successfully complete their training and fully participate in the extramural research workforce (NOT-OD-21-074). As Phase 2 of this initiative, anticipated for awards made beginning in Fiscal Year 2022, NIH will begin providing childcare cost support to full-time predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees appointed on NRSA institutional research training awards. NOT-OD-21-177
NIH Operates Under a Continuing Resolution
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including NIH operates under the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act (Public Law 117-43) signed by President Biden on September 30, 2021. This Act (CR) continues government operations through December 3, 2021 at the FY 2021 enacted level, with no reduction Continuing the procedures identified under NOT-OD-21-058 and consistent with NIH practices during the CRs of FY 2006 - 2021, NIH Institutes and/or Centers may, at their discretion, issue non-competing research grant awards at a level below that indicated on the most recent Notice of Award.  NOT-OD-22-009

Planning a proposal submission in the next 2-3 months?
In an effort to better serve you, the PMI grants team requests that PIs and Fellows notify us as far in advance as possible, of submission plans.  This ensures ample time to complete departmental requirements and also route to OSP for review, by their deadline.   For reference, here is our Grants Submission Timeline which includes key milemarkers, OSP deadlines, and corresponding action-items.
eRA Commons two-factor authentication
NIH is providing more time to make the transition to Login.gov.  eRA will begin a phased approach for enforcing the two-factor authentication requirement for the recipient community (both scientific and administrative account holders).  Scientific account holders should take action now, while administrative account holders will be required to move to two-factor authentication by early 2022.
CoeusWeb For Final Submissions
OSP developed a tool within the CoeusWeb application to submit proposals directly to grants.gov.  This is in addition to the traditional method using Coeus Premium.  OSP created a short PDF guide including screenshots, of what the PI will see during the process. The grants team will continue to be available to support PIs during the final approval and submission.
Know the Basics of NIH Review Criteria
NIH provides peer reviewers with instructions to guide their assessments of grant applications. NIH does so to help reviewers provide consistent evaluations by examining the same key aspects of all applications they review. This recently released NIH article discusses key components of the review process including: overall impact score, scored review criteria, additional review considerations, and nonresponsiveness.
