Save the Date: Consultative Skills Building
The entire HR team will be participating in a learning program with our partners at FranklinCovey on Consultative Skills Building. This learning program will sharpen our skills for the many interactions we have with campus partners, thinking about how we approach a meeting or phone call, diagnosing the needs of the partner, asking great questions, anticipating roadblocks, and clarifying outcomes and action items. This is a six-hour in-person training session scheduled for February 1. We will send a calendar invitation shortly and more details will follow as we get closer to the date.

HR Transformation Project Updates
The team is excited to share that the HR Transformation Project (Self Service Center and the new ServiceNow Platform) is moving into the test environment early next week. This configuration more closely resembles what the final version will look like and allows for quality assurance and testing. Things are still on track for the HR team to test the system in January. Additionally, Theresa will be doing a demo of the Self Service Center at our staff meeting on Tuesday.
More information will be shared in coming newsletters, but if you have questions about the project, please reach out to Theresa Dockery.

What is one thing your colleagues should know about you? - For those that aren't aware - - and I don't know how this could be since I constantly talk about it to anyone who will listen - - I am an avid pickleball player. I started playing right before the start of the pandemic in early 2020 along with my neighbor (and fellow ND employee) Todd Hill. During Covid we would use sidewalk chalk to draw a pickleball court onto the pavement in our cul de sac and use Todd's portable net to have games and do drills. From those humble beginnings we began to find local public courts and meet other pickleballers here in Michiana. The sport is a great mixture of fun, competition, and socializing. I've probably made more new friends in the past 3 years than in the previous 20! I typically play 3-4 times per week and have played in around 20 tournaments thus far including the US Open last Spring down in Naples, FL. My goal is to compete at the highest amateur level (5.0) in several tournaments during 2023 and try at least one Senior Pro event (50+ age group) if I can find a willing partner :-). If anyone wants to learn more about the world of pickleball please feel free to ask away! Of course, I might end up telling you about it whether you want to hear it or not, LOL :-).
What is one of your proudest achievements in your career thus far? - Pride in my career is built one happy customer at a time. Ten or twenty years from now neither I nor my coworkers will likely remember many details about one project or another or who got credit for what achievement. What we tend to remember most is how people made us feel along the way. So I guess what I'm most proud of is leaving folks with a good feeling about working with me and hopefully passing on a few golden nuggets of IT knowledge along the way.

Spread the #HRLove
Thanks to everyone who made the Retirees of Notre Dame Luncheon last Friday so successful! It was a wonderful way to celebrate and support our Emeriti retirees and couldn't have happened without the collaboration of the people services and benefits teams. Thank you!
"I wanted to give a shoutout to Rachel Otwinowski. At the end of the day on Friday, I had a frantic supervisor asking for benefits help for one of their employees. Rachel took the time and worked after hours to rectify the situation, and make the supervisor and the employee feel at ease before the weekend. Thank you Rachel for going above and beyond!" - Amy Lehman

"This past week, the HR Consultant team hosted two ND Voice Forums gathering key campus partners and leaders to discuss results, share best practices and provide feedback for the future. Amy Lehman and Sarah Biggs raised their hands to plan and lead these sessions. A home run was accomplished due to the work of Amy and Sarah. The Forums were professional from start to finish including the power point presentation, facilitation, organization and use of technology. It was evident the participants appreciated the opportunity to gather for the discussion. Thanks to Amy and Sarah for the excellence they displayed amidst all the day to day work their roles require." - Lori Maurer

The Elves
Bob and Tonk have been getting into some shenanigans around the office. Make sure you read the rules for their visit, in case your office is their next stop before the Christmas party next week.
Team Bedding DriveThis holiday season we are partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) for a bedding drive. In January (date TBD), we will have a service day with SHP to build 20 beds for children who are not as fortunate to have a bed. To prepare for our build, we will be collecting bedding donations now through December 21, 2022. They can be neutral, for a boy, or for a girl.
A complete set for 1 bed will need:
twin size comforter
Flat sheet
Fitted sheet
Pillow case
Standard pillow
Our goal is 20 complete bedding sets! All sets must be new and unused and you can purchase a set on Amazon or any store and have it shipped directly to Kristy’s home, drop it off at Kristy’s desk, or if you would prefer, you can make any kind of monetary donation. Kristy will coordinate the delivery to SHP. If you choose to donate, please fill out the spreadsheet so that we are able to track what has been purchased.
Please consider making a donation. No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!

Last week, I discussed the process of gifting responsibly by limiting gifts to those you know the individual will find most beneficial, thereby, reducing the waste that can often come from gifts a person can’t use. In this blurb, I’d like to take things a step further. What can we do to be sure the gift we are giving is a more sustainable variety of that gift? For example, let’s say your child wants new headphones or a sweatshirt. Are there more sustainable options for those items? The answer is, generally, yes! In this article, I want to provide some resources that I often use when I’m either trying to find a gift for someone else or purchase something for myself.
Bear in mind that some sustainable alternatives may be more expensive than their less sustainable counterparts. That is often because a truly sustainable item should also be ethically made and sourced, meaning paying people livable wages. Additionally, their quality, if the website/company is legitimate, is great. Please see some sites below that I love. I will return to discuss these sites in greater detail in future blurbs, but I wanted to give them to you now as a resource as you continue your Christmas shopping:. Earth Hero (called the sustainable Amazon), Package Free (great for household items, has some alternative beauty products that I love!), and Etsy (find small companies with environmentally friendly materials) are great websites to find sustainable goods. Additionally, check in thrift stores, which are teeming with gently used items. Finally, please see this Gift Guide video from a popular, sustainability-focused YouTuber.
