We've got details to rev up your spring registration!
Section numbers ending with “R” require R-clearance or room in the class to register.
| Section numbers ending with “D” require D-clearance from the department to register.
Discuss D-clearance for classes in your major's department with your First-Year Advisor. To request D-clearance for classes outside your major’s department, try these resources:
View your D-clearance status in Web Registration > MyInfo > Cleared Sections.
Prerequisite courses must be passed, or equivalent knowledge demonstrated, before advancing to the next course in a sequence. Here are tips for navigating these requirements.
Request prerequisite waivers, if eligible. Satisfied prerequisites through an equivalent exam or course? Consult your First-Year Advisor about waiver eligibility.
| |
Check out additional tips from Maya and Mitchell!

November Drop-in Group Advising |
Trouble with Web Registration? Got a quick advising question? Meet with FYA Graduate Assistants for drop-in group advising. No appointment required! Join us on Zoom 9:15-10:15 AM on the following dates:
-
Tuesday, November 12
- Wednesday, November 13

Drop-in group advising is for brief, general questions about topics like Web Registration, D-clearance, foreign language, adding/dropping classes, policies, and referrals that can be asked in an online group environment.
This does not replace the required Pre-Registration Advising appointment with your First-Year Advisor. Have a complex or private question? Schedule an individual 30-minute session with your First-Year Advisor in Advise USC.

Senior Environmental Studies major Mira Delfino has made the most of her time at USC by applying academics to real world experiences.
Mira participated in USC's Joint Educational Project by implementing environmental science lesson plans and mentoring students. She also conducted surveys in California's Eastern Sierra region and monitored flora and fauna for the Catalina Island Conservancy. She is now working on directed research with Dr. Victoria Petryshyn about pollution dynamics in Owens Lake and Mono Lake.
When asked about advice for others, Mira shared:
-
Check your email regularly! Email is a critical means of correspondence at USC. For Mira, the Environmental Studies Newsletter connected her with experiences she otherwise would not have known.
-
Apply to opportunities. Apply to as many as possible, but don't stress about acceptances. Rejections help us learn and we can use that for future applications.
-
Take "low-tech" notes. Consider writing notes on paper rather than on electronic devices. Mira found that putting pen to paper helps commit information to memory more effectively.
-
Create manageable goals. Taking goals one step at a time can make them less overwhelming. Mira uses spreadsheets to manage homework and daily schedules.
-
Keep your sense of humor. Laughing, even at yourself, can be a comforting and effective way to defuse stress.
