Friends,
Thank you so much for all your messages and prayers over the last month. Just like you, we are still horrified and heartbroken by what's happening in Ukraine. We were so thankful for a couple of opportunities to help people in our network early on, before there were so many systems in place here to support the refugee crisis. The two women you see in this photo stayed with us for just under a week, and they were so sweet and kind. Having them with us even stopped Jakob's nightmares, as he put it, "because at least I know that they are safe." They don't speak German or English- so we were thanking God for Google Translate!! We also put up a mom with 4 kids in another one of our staff's apartment for a couple days until they were able to find something permanent. We continue to pray alongside you, for them and many others, and we will continue to keep a lookout for ways that the crisis intersects with our mission of reaching adolescents here in Munich. Just like we still spend time with many Syrian teenagers, I'm guessing we'll be meeting more Ukrainian teenagers and University students in the next years.
Here's what else is going on in ministry:
  • In Bogenhausen teens are back outside in the parks again as the days get longer and warmer. Pray for our team as they build relationships with mostly immigrant teens there, and put on spontaneous Clubs on Fridays out in the park.
  • In Laim our team is spending lots of time at the school and is excited to slowly start having group events again soon. Nine kids from the Lukas School are already signed up for summer camp!
  • University has been on semester break, but still hanging out with students who haven't left town. Ryan is planning the first ever Don't Mess with Texas Tour- hoping to bring 20 University students to Texas in Sept/Oct to show them all the Texas highlights! Several have booked flights already!
  • Our staff working with International Schools, Chase and Meg, are still waiting on their visas, 1 year after arriving!! Pray with us that they are approved soon so that they can have peace of mind, and start volunteering at the school. In the meantime they ride the bus with teenagers before and after school several times a week. When we say we do whatever it takes to go where teenagers are, we mean it!
The next months will be very busy for Team Sandefur with staff training weekends, camp prep weekend, and our annual 5k fundraising event. More on that to come in May!

Holding onto hope in Jesus,
Emily & Ryan Sandefur
