Now is the time to evaluate your forage inventory and compare it with the herd’s expected feed needs. Planning ahead can pay off in both the short and long term. If additional feed is needed, acting early provides more time to explore options, compare prices, and secure quality feed, rather than settling for last-minute purchases.

It’s been observed that farmers often don’t retire, but instead “shift gears” by scaling back or transitioning enterprises. This is nothing new to those of us who work with the Wisconsin dairy industry, as farms have moved away from milking cows or have diversified enterprises to complement their dairy herds.
