Medline Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony |

Orange County Commissioners joined with staff from Medline to celebrate the state-of-the-art 1.2 million square-foot medical distribution center in Mebane. Medline is a healthcare company that manufactures and distributes medical supplies and is the supplier of choice for 70% of U.S. hospitals. The $103.5 million investment in land, building, and equipment now supports over 245 jobs and a payroll of $12 million.

Veterans Day ceremony to held at Orange County Veterans Memorial |

|
A special ceremony commemorating Veterans Day will be held at the Orange County Veterans Memorial on Friday, Nov. 10, beginning at 11 a.m. The memorial is on the campus of Orange County Southern Human Services at 2501 Homestead Road, Chapel Hill.
Congresswoman Valerie Foushee will speak at the ceremony, and Dr. Mark Clodfelter will be the guest speaker. He is Professor Emeritus at the National War College, a tribute he earned for his decades long service to Professional Military Education.
A former Air Force officer who was a ground radar officer by trade, Clodfelter served radar tours at Myrtle Beach and South Korea and spent the remainder of his career in military academia.
He taught at the Air Force Academy and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a BS from the US Air Force Academy, an MA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Ph.D. from the UNC.

Health Department Invites the Public to Listening Sessions to Identify Health Priorities |
During the listening sessions, health department staff will share highlights from the recent Community Health Assessment Opinion survey and other information. Listening session attendees will have the opportunity to share comments and vote on health priority areas for the county.

Early voting has begun! A photo ID will be required. If you don't have a photo ID to vote, visit the Orange County Board of Elections at 208 S Cameron St., Hillsborough to get a free photo ID.

Board of Elections Open Extended Hours |
From October 19 through November 4, the Orange County Board of Elections is extending office hours through early voting to offer additional opportunities for voters to get a photo ID or return completed absentee ballots.

Longterm Homeowners Assistance (LHA) Deadline is November 15 |
|
|
The LHA program helps eligible homeowners cover the Orange County portion of 2023 property taxes. All applications must be received by 5:00 PM on November 15 to allow time for processing.

Orange County Part of Team to Win $1.5 million Federal Grant |
|
|
On Oct 12, 2023, Durham County was announced
as one of 12 selectees of the Energy Efficiency and
Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Competitive
Program, a funding opportunity from the Office of
State and Community Energy Programs at the U.S.
Department of Energy. Durham County, the only entity in North Carolina to be selected for the grant program, was awarded $1.5 million to implement a program that will reduce energy burdens and promote energy efficiency in under-resourced neighborhoods in Durham, Orange, and Granville counties.
“Orange County is committed to environmental
justice issues and improving the lives of all residents,
including members of disadvantaged communities,”
said Orange Board of County Commissioners Chair
Jamezetta Bedford. “This grant will help us achieve
our goals of reducing energy usage while improving
financial outcomes for overburdened and underserved communities.”

The program is expected to impact more than 350 households, reducing energy use by 8% to 20% while making homes healthier and more affordable.
