'Big Picture' Focus of District 3 Town Hall

Council Member Jennie Robinson held a town hall on Aug. 4 at the Sandra Moon Community Center. A large crowd heard from Urban and Long-Term Planning Manager Dennis Madsen, who presented on the City’s Big Picture 2.0 master plan that included achievements of the original Big Picture plan as well as future initiatives. Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick also provided an update on the entertainment venue under construction at Ditto Landing.

Council Member Robinson will next hold a town hall on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Event Center at the Sandra Moon Community Complex.

Honoring Service of Col. Erin Eike at Redstone

Council Members Robinson and Michelle Watkins at the Aug. 13 Council meeting sponsored a Council resolution honoring Col. Erin Eike, who relinquished command as Garrison Commander at Redstone Arsenal on Aug. 18. “The City of Huntsville is pleased to recognize her remarkable tenure and is grateful that she will continue serving the community in her next Army assignment with the Space and Missile Defense Command,” the resolution said in part.

Tribute to Huntsville Police Hero

The City held a ceremony on Aug. 25 to recognize the installation of signs along U.S. 72 East honoring Huntsville Police Agent Billy Clardy III, who died in the line of duty in 2019 while investigating a large-scale drug trafficking operation. The “Billy Clardy III Memorial Mile” memorializes his service and dedication to helping keep Huntsville safe.

“This memorial mile marker is a permanent reminder that Billy was here, that his service mattered and that the impact he made continues today,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said.

Huntsville Music Month Rocks September

While Huntsville’s music scene is soaring to unprecedented heights, the highlight each year is Huntsville Music Month in September. More than 200 live music events are scheduled throughout the month at venues across Huntsville. Music Month also includes reformatted events such as LAUNCHPAD and the return of the Rocket City Ramble at AMERICANAFEST in Nashville.

Jazz in the Park, a favorite Huntsville music tradition, is back at Big Spring Park West in September with free shows each Sunday from 5-9 p.m.

Bridge Replacement Planned for Hobbs Island Road

The City recently approved an engineering design services contract for the replacement of the bridge on Hobbs Island Road about one-half mile east of U.S. 231. The bridge and approaching roadway will cover about 3,000 feet of improvements. The design and permitting is expected to take about one year.

District 3 Beautification Award Winner

Council Member Jennie Robinson was honored to congratulate Rosie’s Mexican Cantina for being named District 3’s Most Outstanding Property during the recent Beautification Awards Ceremony. Each year, the City’s Beautification Board recognizes properties that demonstrate exceptional landscaping, curb appeal and community pride. During the ceremony, 376 properties were recognized.

Changes to 'Useless Overpass' Access Roads

The access roads at the section of Memorial Parkway colloquially known as “Useless Overpass” will soon have a new look. The access roads beneath the overpass will become a fully signalized intersection to accommodate traffic at Joe Davis Stadium and new developments in the area. The traffic signals will not affect traffic on Memorial Parkway.

Meeting with Heart of the Valley YMCA

Council Member Robinson recently met with representatives from the Heart of the Valley YMCA. During the meeting, Council Member Robinson discussed the City's priorities, needs within the community and how the YMCA can continue supporting families and neighborhoods.

Celebrating Giving Back to the Community

During a recent City Council meeting, Council Member Robinson gave back to an organization that has been a longtime giver to the community. In partnership with the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, members of the Chaffee Community Civic Association volunteer their time to help maintain Kent Robertson Park on Logan Drive. Their efforts include opening and closing the park each day, helping keep the restrooms clean, minimizing vandalism, and helping ensure a safe and welcoming environment for park patrons.

Parks & Recreation's Fall Program Guide

Parks & Recreation’s 2026 Fall Program Guide features more than 150 free activities, workshops and special events that promise fall fun for all ages. Residents can find traditional sports like basketball and pickleball in the guide as well as unique offerings such as card-playing groups, a variety of dance classes and “sew-cial” circles who break out the needle and thread.
