Message from the DirectorSydney Nano has had yet another fruitful month, despite working remotely. Looking ahead, we are in full swing, hosting two International Workshops in August, including ‘BioNano’ & ‘ NanoPhotonics, NanoEnergy, and Quantum Materials’. We're pleased to announce our next Distinguished Lecture by Professor Ali Khademhosseini, CEO and Founding Director of the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation. Excitingly, we are seeking Expressions of Interest for our second round of Grand Challenges. A drop-in session is available on Wed 11 August to discuss ideas and answer any questions. We're also happy to announce our new Frontier node, NanoFluidics, which will involve academic and industrial mapping in sensing and NanoHealth. We have made significant progress in our inaugural Sydney Nano Network, NanoHealth, and welcome the latest cluster Co-Chair, Dr Omid Kavehei. Omid takes over from Dr Lamiae Azizi who not only co-chaired a NanoHealth cluster, but also a Grand Challenge project. Lamiae was a great Sydney Nano advocate and a fantastic bridge to the mathematical and data science capabilities. Good luck to Lamiae in endeavours beyond the University.
Live from the Lab is back for 2021’s National Science week. I am looking forward to tuning in to FBi Radio’s daily podcast, co-hosted by Associate Prof. Alice Motion, and featuring Prof. Anita Baillie. Finally, on Friday we announced Prof. James Rabeau, Deputy Director for Industry, Innovation & Commercialisation and Enabling Capabilities, will be leaving the University. All the best to Jim in his exciting new role with CSIRO.

Grand Challenges 2022 Now Open
Excitingly, we're now recruiting for our next generation of Grand Challenges. Launching in 2022, successful projects will aim to create transformative solutions for the grand challenges of our society by bringing together researchers across the University and from diverse disciplines. Find out more. The first step requires expressions of interest and high-level intentions. For further info and to be invited to the Q&A drop-in session on Wed, 11 August 2021 at 3.30pm, please contact Sydney Nano Admin.
