Dear Mavericks,
Welcome back, Mavericks, and happy new year!
Whether this is your first semester or you’re rounding the corner toward graduation, remember that your time as a Maverick is about discovering your potential and learning how to use it in meaningful ways. We want you to graduate prepared—not only for a career, but for a life of purpose, engagement, and contribution. This semester, I encourage you to stay curious, get involved, and look for ways to make an impact inside and outside the classroom.
Get Involved
We kick off the semester with Maverick Stampede (Jan. 12–25), a series of events where you can explore student organizations, campus resources, and ways to connect with fellow Mavericks. A highlight each year is Activity Fair Day on Jan. 21. Whether you attend one event or several, it’s a great way to find your people and your place at UTA—and to score free food and UTA swag along the way.
Cheer on the Mavs
One of the best ways to feel connected to our community is by cheering on our Maverick athletic teams. Watch our women’s basketball team take on Utah Tech on Jan. 15 and see our men tackle Tarleton State on Jan. 21. Our wheelchair basketball team is hosting a tournament Jan. 23-24, and baseball and softball get started in February. It’s an exciting time to be a Maverick.
Learn from a Legend
Our Maverick Speakers Series continues this semester with veteran journalist Bob Schieffer, who will reflect on his legendary career and share the stories behind the photographs he has donated to our Special Collections. I hope you’ll join us Feb. 10 at Texas Hall for an engaging and inspiring evening.
Secure Your Future
UTA offers a wide range of resources to help you prepare for what comes next—academically, professionally, and personally. If graduate or professional school is part of your plans, consider attending Graduate School Info Session on Feb. 11, where you can explore programs, connect with advisors, and learn how to prepare for the next step.
We’re starting this semester with strong momentum, and there is so much to look forward to here. Across campus, we are continuing work to improve the spaces and systems that support your success—from ongoing renovations in the Life Sciences Building to planned maintenance and upgrades in several of our most heavily used academic buildings.
I’m excited to see what you accomplish this semester and proud of the community we continue to build together.
