Save the Date: District 1 Town Hall on Feb. 19
Join Council Member Michelle Watkins at a town hall on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. at House of Hope and Restoration Church, 2525 Aspen Dr. NW. The meeting will have a broad agenda and include presentations by Huntsville Police North Precinct Capt. Scott Widner, an update on code enforcement by Community Development Manager Scott Erwin, Manager of Planning Services Thomas Nunez on zoning and Public Works Director Chris McNeese on roads.

Special Event with Arts Huntsville at Cavalry Hill
Arts Huntsville and the City of Huntsville are teaming up again for the next event in the Quarterly at Cavalry series on Friday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. at the Cavalry Hill Community Center, 2900 Fairbanks St. NW. Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy will present Anansi the Spider in a free event as part of the Quarterly at Cavalry series of community activities. The family-focused play will be staged in partnership with Alabama A&M University's Department of Visual, Performing and Communication Arts.

Community Choirs Unite at Cavalry Hill  
Celebrate Black History Month with Voices of Hope & Power, a free community choral concert on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. at Cavalry Hill Community Center, 2900 Fairbanks St. NW. The evening will feature powerful performances from choirs representing Oakwood University, Alabama A&M University, Lee High School and Jemison High School—bringing together voices that reflect the depth, history and future of Huntsville’s music scene.

More Retail, Restaurants for District 1 
Additional shopping and eating options are coming to north Huntsville near State Route 255 (Northern Bypass) and Memorial Parkway. The City agreed to sell 15.23 acres of land on the north side of State Route 255 directly across from North Village Town Center to Hank Holdings LLC. The property will be developed for retail and restaurants. No tenants have been announced but North Village will have Target and Home Depot as anchors.

Apply now for Civic Engagement Academy
If you have a desire to learn more about City government and play a role in shaping its future, the spring 2026 cohort of the Civic Engagement Academy is a perfect opportunity. Applications are now being accepted for the free eight-week program hosted by the City’s Office of Multicultural Affairs. The deadline for applying is Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 p.m.

Huntsville Ranked No. 2 in Best Performing Cities
Huntsville was recently named by the Milken Institute as the No. 2 Best-Performing Large City in the nation by the Milken Institute in its 2026 index. The ratings highlight strong job growth, industry expansion and housing affordability. “Huntsville has one of the hottest economies in the country,” the report said.

Huntsville's Housing Market Remains Strong
Huntsville’s housing market continues to flourish, the City’s Development Review revealed when it was presented recently to the Planning Commission. Compiled each year by the Planning Department, the report provides insight into Huntsville’s economy and spotlights trends happening throughout the city and includes data such as population estimates, annexations and commercial development.

Big Spring Park Expansion on Horizon
The expansion of Big Spring Park East is set to begin after the City approved a construction contract to Fite Construction Company. The expansion will take place at the former site of City Hall at 308 Fountain Circle and will include amenities such as a pavilion with an integrated water feature, public restrooms and accessible walking paths throughout the site.
