John Van Sickle has long worked on poetry composed to form ensembles within books, both Greek bucolic epos & its Roman challenger, Virgil, whose ten eclogues inspired Latin pastoral poetry & Arcadian themes in later literature & the visual arts. He has recently furnished his commentary on the eclogues and verse version with illustrations in graphic novel style: Virgil's Book of Bucolics, the Ten Eclogues Translated into English Verse: Framed by Cues for Reading Aloud and Clues for Threading Texts and Themes: The Illustrated Digital Edition [Kindle Edition]. He teaches at the City University of New York.
