Last week, staff and faculty from the Center for Nonprofits & Philanthropy and eight Bush School capstone students attended the 75th annual Philanthropy Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas. The capstone students gathered background research for their yearlong capstone project and volunteered to assist the conference coordinators. Their report will be an extension of existing research in partnership with our center, looking into the social and economic impact of philanthropy in the southwest region of the United States. The capstone is led by Dr. Will Brown, the Center for Nonprofits & Philanthropy Director, who presented a paper at the conference on a framework for creating systems change, along with Bush School faculty Dr. Wynn Rosser. The paper draws on extensive literature from systems change and performance management to provide insight and perspective on contemporary frameworks in systems change and the role of grant-making foundations. The case highlights the importance of partner capacity, recognizing the need to build organizational and individual capacity as part of effective systems change effort. Their research is available to view at this link.
