Welcome to the new IT Matters! Beginning with this issue, our OIT newsletter will go to all faculty, staff, and students to share crucial updates, helpful tips, and more. This monthly email will help you protect your data and devices, work more efficiently and effectively, and better reach your objectives. We will still send critical security alerts, but this newsletter will also help us reduce the number of emails we send you for other updates. I am confident that you will find this a valuable resource.

Beginning in March 2024, all content from more than 34,000 inactive Google & Box accounts will be deleted. This may affect files shared with you from those accounts.

Google Drive: Find at-risk files now

Everyone will now be able to EASILY search their Google Drive for files at risk of being deleted. 

In addition, a red label will be added to all native Google Apps files owned by an account pending deletion per the Account Lifecycle Process.

You can use the new  Label field in Advance Search to automatically display a list of all files shared with you that are owned by accounts pending deletion.

Check out this shortcut in the redesigned navigation panel that helps you stay on top of your most important messages in Chat.

Improved Search Results

When searching in Chat, machine learning models will help you find more accurate and relevant Chat message results.

Google has released security updates to its Chrome web browser to fix high-severity vulnerabilities that are actively being exploited. These updates also apply to any Chromium-based web browsers running the same technology.

Using Bluetooth to pair devices for easy listening, viewing and work is an everyday occurrence for most people. But did you know that leaving Bluetooth on could leave the device open to vulnerability? Yes! Hackers have found a way to take over devices without user detection using Bluetooth.

Be sure to turn off your Bluetooth when not in use and regularly monitor the pairing history of your devices to help protect against this type of attack.
