Immersed and inspired
Thanks to a Frederick Douglass Summer Scholars Grant, music major Olivia Davis spread her wings and traveled to Ghana. While overseas, she completed courses on the Atlantic slave trade and Twi, one of the local languages, as well as visited many of Ghana's fascinating historical and cultural sites. Her time in West Africa brought home for Davis "the value of immersive education and the need for community in education and life."

Anxious no more
Simulation is a mainstay of nursing education. But in many students it sparks considerable anxiety. For her recent Ph.D., Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing Cassandra Barrow studied the ability of 3D virtual reality simulation to calm those jangled nerves while contributing to students' skills development, critical thinking and communication. Thanks to her research, the technology is now an essential part of undergraduate nursing education at TU.
