Saving Transit Art Resources (STAR) Act Introduced
Congresswomen Alma Adams introduced the STAR Act, which would reinstate a federal flexibility that allows local trans authorities to incorporate art into federallly-funded transit projects.
Transit agencies had employed artists to enhance their transit projects, typically at a cost of 1-2 percent of the project's budget. However, in 2015, Congress passed legislation the included a provision prohibiting federal funds for the incorporation of art into transit projects. This bill would eliminate this prohibition, allowing transit authorities the ability to create more vibrant and welcoming mass transit options.
