We know that Duke students often struggle with always being and doing the best, a product of the high-caliber of students attending Duke combined with the rigorous academic environment. Our hope in Student Affairs is that Duke students can achieve a healthy strive for excellence – not perfectionism. One path to realizing this goal is to nurture self-compassion within our students. Every aspect of the Student Wellness Center was intentionally built to encourage self-compassion and self-care, from the expansive windows allowing natural light to the various textures and natural elements used in the construction. Read the full reflection on wellness, perfectionism, and self-compassion from Tom Szigethy, Associate Dean of Students & Director of DuWell.

Winter Break Travel LogisticsWe are so proud of all that our Duke students have accomplished this semester and wish them luck during exam week, December 12-17. Due to the wide variation in dates and times that students will finish their final exams, Duke cannot accommodate the needs of all students leaving campus during this week. Therefore, there are no airport shuttles at the end of the semester. Thank you for understanding, and safe travels!

LiveSafe AppTo promote safety on campus, we encourage all members of the Duke community to download the LiveSafe App. The app provides easy ways to quickly contact emergency numbers, share safety concerns, and access additional safety resources.
| |
The app also includes the popular “SafeWalk” feature, which allows Duke community members to be virtually accompanied to a destination using GPS-enabled location technology. The app is available in both Apple and Google Play app stores.
