Emory OSRL in the News: Faith in the Vaccine Clinics
Emory OSRL's Faith in the Vaccine Program recently helped coordinate multiple COVID-19 vaccine clinics, at the International Community School Medlock Park in Decatur on January 26 and at Indian Creek Elementary in Clarkston on February 5.
In addition to working with the schools, Emory OSRL partnered with New American Pathways, CORE, GSU Prevention Research Centers, International Rescue Committee, Clarkston Community Health Center, DeKalb County, and DeKalb Board of Health.
Decaturish.com covered the January 26 clinic, which resulted in 160 vaccines being administered.

Hindu Temple Visit on Mahashivratri
Visit: Monday, February 28
Registration Deadline: February 18
In light of the upcoming observance of Mahashivratri, Emory's Hindu Chaplaincy is planning a visit to the Hindu Temple of Atlanta to witness the Rudra Abhishekam puja on the evening of February 28.
Mahashivratri is a Hindu festival dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. The night before the feast, fasting is observed, texts are recited, songs are sung, and stories told in honor of this God whose cosmic dance creates, preserves, destroys, and recreates the world.

Emory's Living Mandala: Infusing Sacred Art into Eco-Awareness
Thursday, February 17, 6:00 p.m., Cannon Chapel and Zoom
In this talk Geshe Lobsang, Professor of Pedagogy in the Department of Religion and Executive Director of the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-based Ethics, will address the history of Emory’s Living Mandala Garden and the significance of the Buddhist mandala as a creative way of contemplating on our deep connections with the world around us. 25th Annual Tenenbaum Lecture: "Judaism and Climate Change: Environmental Ethics and Social Activism"

The 25th annual Tenenbaum Family Lecture in Judaic Studies will explore how, along with other world religions, Judaism has recognized the challenges posed by climate change and has inspired its own forms of religious environmentalism. This free public lecture can be viewed in-person at Emory University's Ackerman Hall, located in the Carlos Museum on campus (571 South Kilgo Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30322), or via Zoom.

EBC Guided Meditation

Starting this week, EBC will be hosting a weekly social to build community amongst our members. Feel free to come to Cannon Chapel anytime between 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.—right before our weekly meditation meetings—to hang out and get to know your peers.
This week, EBC is pleased to welcome back Emory’s Buddhist Chaplain, Venerable Priya Sraman. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School focused on Buddhist Ministry, a Master of Buddhist Studies degree from the University of Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Arts in Buddhist Studies from Mahachulalong-kornrajavidyalaya University in Thailand. Venerable Priya is originally from Chattogram, Bangladesh, and currently lives in Atlanta.

Book Launch: You Truly Assumed

You are invited to attend the launch of Emory undergraduate Laila Sabreen’s debut novel, You Truly Assumed on Wednesday February 16th at 4:00 EST via zoom. You Truly Assumed is a work of YA fiction that chronicles the stories of three Black Muslim teenage girls as they navigate islamophobia and grow as activists together through their blog.
Laila will be in conversation with Margari Hill, the Executive Director of the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative (https://www.muslimarc.org/). Meaning “the way” in Latin, In Via is a journal of Christian thought at Emory University. Through the publication of creative and intellectual expressions inspired by the Gospel, we hope to contribute a clear, relevant, and compassionate Christian worldview to campus conversations.
The club name comes from John 14:6, where Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We are currently looking for staff writers, but please reach out and still apply if you are interested in other aspects of the publication process (editing, design, social media, outreach, finance). Jewish Student Voter Engagement (JSVE) Campus Fellowship Program
The Jewish Electorate Institute (JEI) is recruiting college students for the Jewish Student Voter
Engagement Fellowship, which will start in January 2022 and will go through November 2022. Fellows will work both virtually and in-person on their own campuses and will participate in a multi-institutional learning community with fellows from other campuses. JEI is an independent, non-partisan organization dedicated to deepening the public’s understanding of Jewish American participation in our democracy.
The JSVE Campus Fellowship is focused on establishing sustainable structures for voter education, registration, and mobilization efforts within the student community.
Our fellows will be tasked with engaging students in voter education and registration efforts in advance of the midterm elections, as well as encouraging participation in civic engagement opportunities on campus.

Pastoral Care
All of the chaplains in OSRL are available for pastoral care, which is a form of confidential care and counseling provided by spiritual and humanistic leaders. As practiced by OSRL, it is offered to Emory students, faculty, and staff members of all faiths and no faith, and it makes no assumptions about a person's faith or practice. It can be as simple as a listening ear for emotional and existential support, or it can involve exploring beliefs, teachings, scriptures, and rituals.
