• NYU Shanghai Distinguished Global Professor of Business Chen Yuxin, director of the Center for Business Education and Research (CBER), was recently invited to speak by the Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association (SORSA). In his talk, Chen introduced an original concept, "desire power," in evaluating consumption level and potential. Chen argued that the construction of centers of international consumption requires not only the ability to fulfill consumer appetites but also to boost consumption desire. Shanghai displays "desire power" in its traditional commerce, and the city's fast-growing e-commerce sector has brought advantages and opportunities to the growth of consumption desire. Chen called for being open and inclusive to consumption desire and "worldly pursuits" to invigorate the economy of the city.
