Looking back, it seems almost inevitable that second-year student Sophia Irigoyen ’28 would choose the University of Puget Sound. Less predictable: a decision by her mom, Jennifer Irigoyen MPH’27, to join her this year as a Puget Sound student. While they're pursuing different programs and have wildly different schedules, they share a deep love of the university.

Prof. of German Studies Kristopher Imbrigotta was recently named a Global Fellow for 2026 at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea, in recognition of his work with faculty colleagues in German and theater at the university. Imbrigotta will return to Ewha for further collaboration and will have the opportunity to present his research to the campus community in the coming year. Ewha is one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea and was the first educational institution in the country to offer higher education to women.

Two Logger swimmers made a splash at the Logger Invite swim meet, starting with Sam Lyon ’28, who broke a 38-year-old record in the 100-yard men's butterfly — twice. Lyon broke the previous record set by Hall of Famer and NAIA National Champion David Haynes ’87 in prelims, and then broke his own record in the final. Anderson Bennett ’29 broke the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke set by Hall of Famer and NCAA All-American Robert Powers ’85. Overall, both the men's and women's teams finished in third place.
