The Behavioral Health Centers of Excellence at UC Davis and UCLA hosted the first webinar of our fall series on September 22nd. More than 150 people registered including representatives from 28 counties and community leaders from across North America and Europe. In case you missed it, the presenters generously offered to share their PowerPoints on our website

The next three webinars in our series will take a deeper dive into early intervention for psychosis programs. Your responses to this evaluation and planning survey will ensure that we focus on what's important to you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Psychotic Disorders Conference Nov. 4

Congratulations Dr. Peter Yellowlees!

Peter Yellowlees, M.D., Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis and BHCOE pilot award recipient was awarded a $2 million, 5-year award from the DHHS’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for a project entitled, "A clinical trial to validate an automated online language interpreting tool with Hispanic patients who have limited English proficiency." The BHCOE pilot award enabled Yellowlees to collect data for this successful submission. 

Mental Health Policy 

A.B. 2273- Military law: suicide, authored by Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, prohibits a member of the active militia, including the California National Guard, from being prosecuted for a military crime based on an attempt to kill himself or herself.  The law also requires the Adjutant General to ensure that any active militia member who attempts suicide is referred as soon as possible to the department’s Behavioral Health Liaison Program. A.B. 38- Mental health: Early Diagnosis and Preventive Treatment Program, authored by Assemblymember Susan Eggman, establishes the EDAPT Program Fund, offering reimbursements to the Regents of the University of California for providing early diagnosis and prevention treatment services to individuals with severe mental illness and children with severe emotional disturbance. A.B. 1299- Medi-Cal: specialty mental health services: foster children, authored by Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, ensures that foster children who are placed outside of their county of original jurisdiction are able to access mental health services in a timely manner consistent with their individualized strengths and needs and the requirements of the EPSDT program standards and requirements. UCLA BHCOE Director, Ken Wells, MD, created an opera based on the memoir by USC Law Professor and MacArthur Fellow, Elyn Saks.
Researchers at UCSD and UCLA use imaging to elucidate the connection between brain injury and PTSD.
