Clin-STAR VA Research Interest Group - State of Age-Friendly Care in VA Survey
If you work at a VA, we would love to hear from you!
On the heels of the VA Age-Friendly State of the Art Conference (SOTA), there is momentum to learn more about how age-friendly care is implemented and evaluated at the VA, in primary care as well as specialty care, and in research.
The Clin-Star VA SIG is the ideal forum to learn from each other how we can improve age-friendly for our Veterans. We would like to discuss and learn how you assess and act on, or evaluate age-friendly concepts in your field, at your facility. The questions are intentionally broad, please select the topics that are most relevant to your work and that speak to you.
State of Age-Friendly Care in VA- From Clin-STAR VA SIG – please complete form
Responses will be used to begin to collate the State of Age-Friendly care at VA with the overall goals of:
1. Highlighting the great work already being done within VA.
2. Inspiring clinical + research innovations and collaborations that will improve the care of our Veterans.
Please complete this survey by Feb 3rd in order to collate responses and inform our discussion ahead of our February 6 meeting. If you would like to join, contact Andrea@afar.org
**Please feel free to forward to your colleagues at the VA if we missed someone who would like to join this SIG!
Thank you for your time.
Co-chairs: Una Makris, MD, MSc and Katie Wysham, MD

Clin-STAR R01/R21 Grant Writing Group |
|
|
The goal of the Clin-STAR R01/R21 Grant Writing Group is to develop a supportive community that will help current and former Beeson awardees and other clinician scientists interested in aging research to develop successful R-level grant applications. Each month, those who are interested in presenting can submit a grant at any stage of development (aims page, partially or fully written grant, resubmission, etc).
The next review session will be held in March. If you're interested in presenting draft grant materials (e.g., aims) for group review, please complete this sign up form.. Scheduling decisions will prioritize the first four people with compatible availability. This will be a two-hour session in which everyone is expected to review each other’s materials.
If any questions, please contact andrea@afar.org

Grant Opportunity Forecasted: Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists' Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR)
Estimated Deadline: February 16, 2026
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to renew the Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists' Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) program. The GEMSSTAR program provides support for early-career physician-scientists trained in medical or surgical specialties and early-career dentist-scientists in launching careers as future leaders in aging- or geriatric-focused research. As such, the program seeks applicants who aspire to continue or shift their research focus to bridge their specialty/discipline and the clinical care of older adults.
