New year, new park
Awarded a $1.89 million construction contract to Capture Energy
for the Oakbrook Community Park Development Project. Phase
one improvements will expand recreation opportunities, enhance accessibility and add new amenities, including an inclusive wetlands-themed play area, pickleball courts, sidewalks, Naturespaces native plantings and a Portland Loo restroom.
Work is expected to be completed by fall 2025.

Responded to proposed ballot petition
Determined through legal review that the "Save Our Streets" proposed initiative petition to place all transportation infrastructure changes on the ballot for voter approval is illegal under Washington law and the City Charter, and therefore, would not be placed on the Feb. 11 special election ballot.

Created a Heights District Business Improvement Area
Approved the establishment of a Heights Business Improvement Area to fund enhanced maintenance, safety and programming of public spaces in the future Heights District in central Vancouver. Property owners will pay an annual fee based on their lot size to support services like cleaning, public safety and public space improvements/community events.

Vancouver Farmers Market street use permit extended through 2029
Approved a five-year agreement allowing the Vancouver Farmers Market to continue operating on portions of Esther and 8th Streets through 2029, supporting local businesses and maintaining a key downtown attraction.

Keeping Vancouver’s water safe is our top priority. We are studying and planning how to address PFAS in our water and are on track to meet the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 2029 deadline for treatment.
Water samples taken on Nov. 26, 2024, showed PFAS levels above the EPA’s limits at eight of our nine wellfields.
