LLS Emergency Preparedness & Awareness Week Begins
This week, LLS Public Safety is hosting Emergency Preparedness & Awareness Week, when the law school tests its emergency management and preparedness tools. Quick overview of schedule:
- Tuesday, Oct. 18: Mandatory Annual Evacuation Drill will be held at 11:40 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. This will include activation of campus fire alarms and those on campus evacuating to designated locations. For more details, please see today's OfficialNotice email labeled "Mandatory Evacuation Drill."
- Thursday, Oct. 20: The annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill will be conducted at 10:21 a.m. and 6:21 p.m. to remind members of the LLS community what actions they should take in the event of an earthquake on campus.
- Friday, Oct. 21: LLS Alert test at 12:20 p.m.

Loyola Project for the Innocent Hosts "Barred: Why the Innocent Can't Get Out of Prison?" Book Talk
Thousands of innocent people are behind bars in the United States. But proving their innocence and winning their release is nearly impossible. The LPI will host Professor Daniel Medwed from Northeastern University School of Law to talk about his new book, "Barred: Why the Innocent Can't Get Out of Prison." The event will run 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 in Robinson Courtroom. Dessert will be served!

Rights in Systems Enforced (RISE) Presents Survivor Voices
Join the Rights in Systems Enforced (RISE) Clinic at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 for "Survivor Voices: Shifting the Conversation on Crime Victims’ Rights & Criminal Justice Reform" at LMU Loyola Law School hosted by the Rights in Systems Enforced (RISE) Clinic. The retreat will support survivor leaders from diverse backgrounds as they utilize their experiences to identify and propose improvements to the criminal justice system that focus on integrating the voices of survivors and strengthening the rights of victims to ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect. From 3:30-5:30 p.m., Survivor Leaders will present their recommendations developed during the retreat to Allied Professionals and Loyola Law School students. Loyola Law School continues its partnership with the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association for the eighth installment of TechTainment™, which will take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022 on LMU's Playa Vista campus. The first in-person TechTainment since 2019 will feature panels on blochain and NFTs, the metaverse, esports, ethics in social media and much more. The panel Metaverse or Metaworse: Can the Application of Real-World Laws and Regulations Solve Virtual World Problems? will feature alumni Julie Shapiro, director of the law school's Entertainment & Media Law institute, and Tom Ara, partner, DLA Piper.
