Today is one of the best days of the year! In addition to being National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, we are celebrating our 22nd annual Research & Creative Works Symposium! The poster session in McCombs is fantastic and the student presenters I spoke with are both impressive and expert. This is the first time since 2019 that we have held RCWS in person, and I encourage everyone to come out and experience all the amazing work students and faculty have done this year. This event encapsulates the spirit of a liberal arts education and thanks go to Sarah Brackman, Christine Vasquez, and Ben Belz for all their work in making our faculty and students shine so brightly. Please be sure to attend at least one of today’s presentations or performances to support your fellow students! Check out the full agenda.
This Wednesday and Thursday, the members of the Southwestern Board of Trustees will be on campus for their second on-campus meeting in two years, and I’m sure they will all be excited to see and speak with you—especially at the Sweet Surprise.
Students have asked me to share the Land Development Value Statement drafted earlier this year by the Tactical Planning Task Force and unanimously adopted by the Board of Trustees. The purpose of the Statement is to create a strong, unified articulation of our values as we consider the development of the more than 500 acres of land we own contiguous to campus.
This is an exciting time for Southwestern, one in which we are visualizing a major expansion not only of our resources but of our presence both in Georgetown and among liberal arts institutions nationally. One of the hardest things to do for an institution is to remain grounded in our values while also reaching ambitiously to transform ourselves. This is something we teach our students every day. Now we have the opportunity to show the world who we are.
Finally, it’s a short week! I hope you all enjoy a day off on Friday. If you’re traveling home to be with family, safe travels. If you’re staying on campus, check out some of this weekend’s athletic events!

Welcome David Ocshner
If you missed Friday’s announcement, I’m thrilled to welcome David Oschner to the senior staff. He will serve as the new chief marketing officer and vice president for integrated communications. He starts next Monday, so swing by the Marketing and Communications Office on the third floor of Cullen to give him a big Pirate welcome!
