THINGS WE'RE LOVING THIS MONTH
What We’re Listening To » We’ve enjoyed revisiting one of our favorite episodes of WBEZ’s This American Life this month. In “The Problem We All Live With,” Nikole Hannah-Jones examines the achievement gap between Black and White students and reports on a school district that accidentally began an integration program in 2013. Follow the journey of Normandy School District in Normandy, Missouri, and see what happens to the students, parents, and politics in modern day America when an integration program is unintentionally put on the table. Listen here
What We’re Reading » In Between the World and Me, Ta-Nehisi Coates wrestles with a fraught history of slavery, desegregation, high incarceration, and disproportionate murder rates as he seeks to explain what it is like to inhabit a Black body in a letter to his son. This #1 New York Times Bestseller is an honest and personal exploration of what it means to be Black in America today. We encourage you to check it out from the library or get your own copy here
