STRIDE April Newsletter

Here's what STRIDE and our community are up to this month!
Colorful chalk writing on a city street reads
Rest in Peace Daunte Wright
In Minneapolis this week 20 year-old Daunte Wright was murdered by police officer Kimberly Potter after the officer pulled him over for having an air freshener on his rear-view mirror.
Daunte was a young father and beloved community member who loved playing basketball and doting on his two-year-old son Daunte Jr. He is survived by a large and loving family in Minneapolis.
We grieve the loss of another life to racist police violence as we hold Daunte's family and the community of Minneapolis in the light. STRIDE stands in solidarity with organizers and protesters in Minneapolis and in cities across the United States who are in active revolt and uprising against the racist police system and the white supremacist state.
To help bail out protesters being arrested and brutalized in Minneapolis support the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

Join us for STRIDE Movie Night! - Zoom Link passcode: 804711
Time - April 22nd - 6:30 pm
Synopsis - Ella Baker, a friend and advisor to Martin Luther King, Jr., played an instrumental role in shaping the American civil rights movement. The dynamic activist was affectionately known as the Fundi, a Swahili word for a person who passes skills from one generation to another. By looking at the 1960s from the perspective of Baker, the "godmother of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee," "Fundi: The Story of Ella Baker" adds an essential understanding of the U.S. civil rights movement.
