Transportation at the Tournament
|
|
|
Convention Center » Parking at the Phoenix Convention Center is $12/day if purchased in advance, and $15/day if purchased day-of on site or for in-and-out privileges. Multiple garages are available with various height restrictions. Please review the list of garages and parking map and select the best option for you. There are three bus drop off locations, two on Third Street and one on Monroe.
Schools » Maps for all schools will be available in the Nats23 Guidebook App, which is released in June. Maps include the main entrance for the campus, parking lots, and drop off areas. We want to help you minimize the time you spend out in the heat! Use the maps to streamline your entry process.

Pre-Planning » If your schedule allows, we recommend teams drive to the competition venues before their first morning of competition to become familiar with the daily route and expected travel times. Phoenix traffic will be heavy, though better driving out from Phoenix to Mesa than the reverse in the mornings.
Vehicle Rental » A discount code for Hertz is available on our website.
Public Transportation » The Valley Metro Rail runs from northwest Phoenix through Tempe to east Mesa. It includes park and ride stations where travelers can park their vehicles for free and hop on the rail. A map of the light rail stops is included on our Venue and Hotel map, as well as the park and ride stations. Please note that the light rail does not run all the way out to the schools, and is not an advisable way to reach competition venues during the week. It is an option for getting to the Convention Center during the week. As with all public transportation, be mindful of safety and the potential for delays.

Preparing for Supplementals
|

Students who pre-registered but did not re-register will not be scheduled for competition. All rules can be found in the High School Unified Manual or World Schools Invitational Manual.
- Poetry: Selections no longer need to be cuttings from a single source; a Poetry piece may come from one or multiple sources. A Poetry piece may consist of one entire poem, a cutting of a single longer poem, or a collection of short poems or cuttings from one source or several sources arranged in a program.
-
Storytelling: If a chair is used in Storytelling, students may choose the original position of the chair. Use of the chair is not considered a prop as long as: 1) Once the performance begins, all legs of the chair remain stationary on the ground and do not move from their original position, and 2) Competitors do not kneel or stand on the chair.
-
World Schools: No electronic devices are permitted in World Schools rounds. This means that students will not be reading arguments off of their laptops, even in prepared rounds. The only exception is that a cell phone in airplane mode can be used for timing only. Please come prepared with your materials printed, as we will not have printers available at the competition venue.
-
Debate: No outside assistance from coaches or non-competing students is permitted during a round. Competitors in World Schools may not communicate with non-competing teammates during a round.
-
Internet: Use of the internet is permitted during round in Congress, debate (excluding World Schools), and Extemp prep. Please review the "Current Guidelines for Use of Internet-Enabled Devices" in the Unified Manual.
- Generative AI (ChatGPT): Please review the ruling regarding use of generative artificial intelligence sources on page 107 in the Unified Manual.
