Friday's pickup - Restock your fridge and pantry!

Are you running low on Maple syrup? Out of Crema La Vaquita? Need bread for sandwiches? Tofu for a stir fry? Sausages for the BBQ?

This is the harvest season and a great time to think about the local food you want to eat through the winter and how you want to preserve it.

Look for:

Bulk Beans from Brenda Knechtel! Bushels are a great deal! You can get flat beans, green beans, yellow beans and even purple beans! For those who are fans of pickled beans - get them while you can!
Watermelon (Red, Yellow and Sorbet Swirl) and Canaloupe from Brenda Knechtel
Matt's Cherry Tomatoes (tiny, but sweet!) and Ground Cherries from Brenda as well!
Potatoes from Stevanus Family Farm are dug and ready! We love all the colours available as well as the fingerling potatoes. Beautiful and tasty!
Purple Basil and Candy Cane Beets from Bowman's Organic Produce
Eggplant from Garden Party and Brenda Knechtel
So many lovely fermented foods and salsas from Garden Party. Her no-dill pickles are my favourite!
This may be the last week for melons. Our farmers have grown amazing red and yellow watermelons as well as Cantaloupe. Melon freezes well and you can enjoy fruity ice cubes all year long!
Amazing bread from Grainharvest for lunches and healthy sliced meats from Stemmler's too!
I missed the Gluten Free Italian Bread from Sugar Babies Cakes last week. It's the best GF bread I've ever tasted and we love the muffins too!

Fresh Pressed Pear Apple Cider

This amazing cider is ready for the season. No Preservatives!
A great treat only available a short time throughout the year.
It is in the Pantry Section under Beverages

It's all about the grapes!

If you have been buying grapes every week you know that they are getting sweeter and sweeter!

In addition to Peaches, Pears and Raspberries, we also have lovely Plums including Damson (great for jam!) and Italian Prune Plums.

Our BULK 10 and 20 pound boxes of fruit are a great value!

This week's grapres are:

Himrod Green Grapes - These are a cross between Thompson Seedless and Ontario grapes. The white seedless grape is juicy and sweet
Sovereign Coronation Grapes - A virtually seedless blue table grape. It is a juicy, very sweet, blue grape. Excellent for fresh eating, preserving or juice. Transition to organic and conventional available
Fredonia Blue Grapes - Seeded - Very large deep purple grapes with a thick skin. Great for fresh eating, jelly, juice and wine.
Niagara White Grapes - Seeded - Generous clusters of flavorful fruit. They are known for their pleasant aroma. Great for fresh eating, jams/jellies, juice, wines, and champagnes

A note about peaches!

We have some of the most amazing peaches coming from Warrner's Fruit Farm in Niagara.

Warner's practices Integrated Pest Management (IPM) which means that they only spray when there is a problem to be solved. This uses less pesticides and often solutions allowed in organic farming
The fruit is TREE RUN which means that we are avoiding the fungicidal baths that occur at the sorting stations. The advantage, no extra fungicidal baths, fruit ripens longer on the tree since the shipping time is only 2 hours!
Caring for these peaches is a bit different, but definitely worth it.

Here are some tips:

When you get home, remove the peaches from their box. Some will be ripe and ready to eat. Eat them!
Peaches that are not ripe should be set out on newspaper, not touching and with the stem end up.
Keep an eye on them and eat or process your peaches when they are perfect. You won't be waiting long! Peaches can go in the fridge, but please note that the texture can change, especially if they are not yet ripe.
