Join the Campaign for Nonviolence, Sept 21- Oct 2
|
BYM Peace and Social Concerns Committee invites Meetings and friends to participate in the United Nations Campaign for Nonviolence, which runs from the International Day of Peace, Sep 21 until the Day of Nonviolence, Oct 2.
Established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, and in 2001, designated as a period of non-violence and cease-fire, peace groups have extended this day to a period of action and reflection concluding on the UN Day of Nonviolence. The theme this year is “Building a culture of peace.”
We welcome your ideas for actions! This coming Sunday the Dunnings Creek Peace and Social Concerns Committee has invited Glenn Rogers, a Bedford Countian who has spent much time in Palestine to share his perspective. Patapsco has held fasting days with special meetings for worship. Frederick Friends Meeting is holding a peace rally and march and inviting community peace-oriented groups and individuals to join.
We invite you to participate by offering opportunities like a teach-in on nonviolence, calling for ceasefires, training in how to interrupt racial harassment, or connecting the issues of climate, environment, and militarism.
Might your Meeting join tens of thousands of others across the US in creatively building a culture of peace rooted in active nonviolence?
