Dear Colleagues,
The Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Affairs are seeking dynamic members of the Duke faculty to live and work with our first-year undergraduates as Faculty-in-Residence on East Campus.
The learning process for students does not end in the classroom, and the vitality of our intellectual environment greatly depends on student experiences outside of class. To encourage greater student-faculty interactions, and foster intellectual exploration in the residence halls, the Office of Undergraduate Education–in close collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs–operates the Faculty-in-Residence (FiR) program.
The FiR program offers a broad range of opportunities for both structured and informal interaction with undergraduate students for participating faculty. FiRs draw freely and creatively on their interests as they foster community and build relationships with students. Former FiRs reported developing an increased sense of belonging in the Duke community and finding great satisfaction in getting to know students outside of traditional academic settings.
The initial appointment is for three years, with an option to apply for a reappointment to a final three-year term. The FiR program has two openings with a start date of July/early August 2024. Interested faculty are invited to apply by Friday, March 1.
