Two of the three faculty members in the theatre arts department at Puget Sound are Loggers through-and-through, having been students who majored in theatre arts who then left to earn graduate degrees, work in the industry, and return to Tacoma to teach new generations on a wonderfully familiar stage. A Trailblazer for Environmental Stewardship
|
Dr. Gordon D. Alcorn ’30, the former professor of biology who started the ornithology collection at the Puget Sound Museum of Natural History, is being honored by the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge as a trailblazer who helped protect the Nisqually Delta. An exhibit celebrating Dr. Alcorn’s preservation work will be unveiled at the 30th Annual Nisqually Watershed Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27. Alcorn, who passed away in 1994, was an advocate for the watershed's ecological diversity, opposing a proposal to develop a port, and helped establish the Nisqually River delta as a wildlife refuge.

Puget Sound students certainly took advantage of the sunshine, but where was Grizz? The university’s beloved mascot was a bit elusive this summer. Did Grizz go backpacking? Hibernate? Visit Bigfoot? No one knows for sure, but our students have some intriguing theories.
