Orange County Manager Myren Presents FY2025-26 Recommended Budget |

Orange County Manager Travis Myren presented his recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2025-26 (FY2025-26) to the Board of County Commissioners during the May 6 business meeting. The proposed general fund budget totals $311.9 million, marking a $17.4 million or 6% increase over the current fiscal year.
The recommended budget includes a property tax rate of 65.59 per $100 of assessed valuation—2.95 cents above the revenue-neutral rate of 62.64 cents. This rate is

designed to support critical investments, including funding for school facilities and maintaining essential services.
The proposed increase would generate an additional $9.7 million in revenue. The tax impact of this rate increase on a home valued at $500,000 is $147.50 per year.

The Orange County Human Relations Commission, in partnership with the Office of Civil Rights & Civic Life, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 Pauli Murray Awards. These annual awards celebrate individuals and organizations in our community who are making a meaningful difference through their commitment to fairness, justice, and human rights.
This year’s recipients embody the spirit of Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray—an activist, lawyer, poet, priest, and native of the Triangle region—whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

- Adult Award: Vickie Feaster Fornville, longtime advocate, educator, and public servant

| Brynn Schreiner, the Orange County Veteran's Service Officer will be on site at the Passmore Center in Hillsborough the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill the first Thursday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

| BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters helps make adoption more affordable by sponsoring reduced fees for adoptable pets.
May 1 – May 15, adoptable cats and dogs at OCAS are available for only $25. Adoptions include vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchips!
Hours: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday – Friday, and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturdays. No appointment needed to stop by and view available pets.
