New ‘Top Docs’ features Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Au, M.D.
The latest episode of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs’ show features Michelle Au, M.D., MPH, an anesthesiologist with Emory-St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta and a graduate of the MAG Foundation’s Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy who is running for the Georgia Senate’s 48th District – which includes Johns Creek, Duluth, and parts of Lawrenceville, Peachtree Corners, and Suwanee.

Dr. Au graduated magna cum laude from Wellesley College with a degree in psychobiology, while she received her medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of New York (CHONY) and a residency in anesthesiology at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University. Dr. Au also has a master’s degree in public health from Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health.
Dr. Au wrote a medical memoir that is entitled ‘This Won’t Hurt a Bit (And Other White Lies): My Education in Medicine and Motherhood,’ which was published by Grand Central Publishing, and she is working on her second book, which is a “hybrid memoir about the history of anesthesiology blended with personal clinical stories, aiming to shed light on a field of medicine relied on by many but understood by few.” She has written articles for The Boston Globe, The Atlantic, Slate, Medium, KevinMD, and Psychology Today.
Dr. Au lives in Johns Creek with her husband and fellow MAG member Joseph Walrath, M.D., with their three children.
Between downloads and live listeners, ‘Top Docs’ – which won an American Association of Medical Society Executives Profiles of Excellence Award and a Health Information Resource Center Digital Health Awards award in 2019 – has now reached more than one million listeners and viewers, which includes people in all 50 states and more than 80 countries.
