Hey there. Hola. Nǐ hǎo.
I’m Rebot, the UC San Diego campus 'reboot' robot. Over the next few weeks and into the academic year, I plan to provide timely updates, tips, and guidance from the Division of Student Affairs to help (re)welcome you to UC San Diego.
Today, I hope you’ll take a look at some recommendations I’ve put together to ensure that we all (re)arrive on campus safely, in good health, and ready to (re)connect and (re)engage with our vibrant Triton community.
Get here safely.
When you get to campus in about a month – whether you’re traveling across the country, across the globe, or even just across the Gilman Bridge – we want you to show up safe, healthy, and prepared.
With the Delta variant surging, Rebot recommends that you (re)invigorate those familiar early-pandemic precautions (hand sanitization, masking indoors, physical distancing) while you’re on the road or in the air.
Gather safely.
In the U.S., Labor Day is right around the corner. Which means it’ll be a lot more difficult to avoid crowds, and a lot easier to acquire and subsequently transmit the now-dominant Delta variant.
When gathering with others, Rebot recommends that you (re)embrace your responsibility to help stop this pandemic by getting vaccinated, adhering to public safety guidance, and exercising common sense – because Tritons Care for Tritons.
Report your vaccination status.
This one should be self-explanatory: Rebot recommends that you document your vaccination status via MyStudentChart by September 6, and ask a fellow Triton to do the same if they haven’t gotten around to it just yet.
Prioritize mental well-being.
For the past year-and-a-half, we’ve all been hyper-focused on our physical health – for good reason. The COVID-19 pandemic has made us painfully aware of indicative symptoms like fever, cough, runny nose, etc., while “powering through” occasional bouts of anxiety, fear, burnout, and grief.
Here’s the thing: unchecked symptoms of stress can also be pretty detrimental to your physical health. To help cope, Rebot recommends that you (re)invest in mental well-being with free Headspace Plus access for Tritons who have a ucsd.edu email address.
Get the UC San Diego app.
Not only will you need it to scan
self-administered COVID test kits from our vending machines, the UC San Diego mobile app provides convenient access to your digital student ID card and a ton of relevant in-person metrics like real-time library occupancy or parking availability on campus.
To stay in-the-know about all things Triton from the palm of your hand, Rebot recommends that you download the UC San Diego mobile app for iOS and Android.
Consider long-term hotel housing.
For many, the COVID-19 pandemic has wholly upended access to basic needs – like stable housing or financial wellness. In response, UC San Diego has negotiated discounted student rates on extended-stay, transitional housing options for the upcoming academic year.
For students looking to book reduced rates for daily/weekly/monthly stays, Rebot recommends that you consider verified deals at four Marriott locations within miles of campus. Students staying for 90 consecutive days or longer will receive the best rate, and need-based financial support is available via the Basic Needs Hub for students who qualify.
Thank you, Tritons, for everything you continue to do to keep each other safer.
