| Cal Expo Announces Fall and Winter New Events
| |
Summer is a memory and the California State Fair will return next July 12- 28th 2019, but, Cal Expo's event center and facilities are alive with new exhibitions, shows, concerts and sporting events this fall and winter and well into 2019. View the full Calendar of Events here.
“Cal Expo’s facility is perfect for larger conventions and new shows and the grounds have the capacity to host many different events simultaneously including concerts, dances, sporting events, community efforts and unique outdoor shows like, the Cannabis Cup and Global Winter Wonderland,” says Rick Pickering, CEO at California Exposition & State Fair.
Cal Expo has a variety of facilities for shows and exhibitions that can accommodate thousands of attendees.
Events currently scheduled into the fall and winter include:
Exhibitions and Shows
The fall shows begin in September with the Fall RV Show, KVIE Kids Fest, Enchanting Bridal Show and Destination Travel Show in our Pavilion. Scheduled for October, is Wizard World - a new event this year, The Fall Home Show, Aloha Festival, International Auto Show, Nugget Market Bag Off and Cannabis Cup. The Tiny Home Show, Harvest Festival, Ski & Snowboard Expo, Hmong New Year, and Jurassic Quest are scheduled for November. December events continue with Global Winter Wonderland, which begins in November and runs through January, Christmas Tree Lot and Arden Parking for holiday shopping at Arden Fair Mall. View the full Calendar of Events here.
Among these large events scheduled are non-profit events that support causes that give back to the community. In September, CA Care Force provides health, dental and vision check-ups for those without insurance or who have difficulty finding health services. In October, KCRA Kids Can Food Drive collects tons of donations for the local food banks and in December the Salvation Army distributes food and toys for the holiday season.
In January 2019, the new year kicks off with the International Sportsmen Expo which has been coming to Cal Expo for over 32 years.
Helping the Convention Center Expansion Project
Due to the planned renovation of the Sacramento Convention Center and Memorial Auditorium, Cal Expo has partnered with Visit Sacramento to keep many of the convention center events in Sacramento. Several Sacramento Convention Center shows have already committed to Cal Expo. The first show to be held at Cal Expo is the extremely popular Wizard World on October 5th, 6th and 7th 2018. Further into 2019, new shows include the Scrapbook Expo in November and the Almond Board Conference in December. The Unified Wine & Grape Symposium will be in February 2020. Five more conferences have held dates in 2019 and 2020 and are in the midst of booking this year.
“One of the critical elements of the expansion is to make sure that the impact on our customers during construction is minimized. Cal Expo has been a tremendous partner throughout this process and that partnership has allowed us to save a number of important conventions from leaving Sacramento during the expansion. Those convention relocations to Cal Expo help to ensure that millions of dollars in economic impact from these groups will stay in our community,” said Mike Testa, President and CEO at Visit Sacramento.
Cal Expo and the California State Fair will continue to work with Visit Sacramento to book more shows into the future.
Cal Expo also hosts exciting sports events and concerts at Papa Murphy’s Park and the Miller Lite Racetrack Grandstand.
Sporting Events:
The Sacramento Republic USL Soccer Team is currently in 4th place in the Western Conference with seven games left in the season. The top eight teams in the conference advance to the playoffs and if all goes well, the playoff games will continue into November at Papa Murphy’s Park.
Harness Racing begins in November and continues into May 2019 at the Miller Lite Racetrack Grandstand. In harness racing, the horse usually pulls a two-wheeled cart called a sulky, occupied by a driver and races a specific gait - a trot or pace. Of course in July, during the CA State Fair, there is Thoroughbred Horseracing. For anyone interested in watching and betting on horseracing, the Cal Expo Sports & Wagering Center runs year-round at the Grandstand.
Concerts:
Papa Murphy’s Park is also home to outdoor concerts. During the California State Fair, the venue played host to three concerts, Kidz Bop, SMO Tour and ZZ Top with George Thorogood. This fall, several concerts are scheduled, City of Trees, Kingdom Come Fest, Timbiriche and Flogging Molly & Drop Kick Murphys. Click here for concert information.
CEO Pickering added, ”We wish to thank Governor Brown and leadership in the Legislature for recently allocating $15 million for deferred maintenance projects at Cal Expo, which will support our continuing growth as a major event facility and economic engine that drives jobs and taxes.”
