Dear Colleagues:
I write to share a few highlights from today’s meetings of the Board of Trustees.
During the meeting, the Board approved the Provost’s recommendations for tenure and faculty promotions. Sixteen faculty members were promoted from associate professor to professor, 17 faculty members were promoted from assistant professor to associate professor, and 16 faculty members were granted tenure. Among non-tenure line faculty, nine faculty members were promoted to associate lecturer; three faculty members were promoted to associate clinical lecturer; 17 faculty members were promoted to associate teaching professor; seven faculty members were promoted to senior lecturer; three faculty members were promoted to teaching professor, and one faculty member was promoted to clinical professor.
I am grateful to our faculty members whose expertise, service, research, and creative activity were recognized this year for this distinction. They exemplify our University’s commitment to our enduring values.
The Board also heard a presentation from Cathy DuBois, Bryan Dean of the Miller College of Business (MCOB), about enrollment and personnel trends, positive placement rates for MCOB graduates, and how the college plans to support student success in the years to come.
In other business, the Board approved my recommendation to reappoint Mark Ervin as a member of the Muncie Community Schools Board of Trustees. Mark’s legal expertise and leadership experience have been of great benefit to the school board. I appreciate his willingness to continue serving in a role that demonstrates his commitment to the children of Muncie and to our community.
Finally, as I shared with the Board, I am looking forward to attending tomorrow’s Spring Commencement ceremony on the Quad. I appreciate all that you—our talented faculty and staff—have done this past year to enable our University to recognize those graduates who have completed their degree requirements this Spring. We are honoring approximately 2,800 candidates, and I offer them best wishes for their future endeavors as alumni.
At the end of the Board meeting, I made a few comments. If you would like to read my remarks, please visit our website.
It is a privilege to serve with you, and I hope that you enjoy some time this Summer with family and friends.
