The process for configuring personal devices — particularly Android smartphones — to use two University of Utah Wi-Fi networks will change slightly on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

UIT will deploy SecureW2 as the cloud configuration service for laptops, cellphones, tablets, and other non-Internet of Things (IoT) devices that use UConnect and eduroam.

After May 28, users who visit onboard.utah.edu to connect a non-IoT device will follow on-screen prompts as usual. (Users who need to connect IoT devices should use the ULink network.) Previously, people configuring devices to use these networks would be asked to download and install a Cloudpath application. After May 28, users will be asked to install a SecureW2 JoinNow application.

JoinNow will attempt to automatically detect a device’s operating system, or a user may select an operating system from a dropdown menu. Once the correct operating system is selected, users will be presented with operating system-specific application download instructions.

The following instructions illustrate how to onboard an Android device to UConnect:

Download the SecureW2 JoinNow app.

Enter “utah.edu” in the Domain field.

Select “UConnect” and log in with your uNID and university password.

Note: Users may be prompted to authenticate with Duo two-factor authentication (2FA), which was not required previously.

Select “Next” to install the UConnect wireless profile and then select “Save” or “Allow” as shown in the examples on the screen.

Select “Go to Wi-Fi Settings” to verify your connection.
