MAG HONORS SAVANNAH NEUROLOGIST FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
ATLANTA – Carl Rosengart, M.D., received the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) Physician’s Award for Community Service during MAG’s 165th House of Delegates meeting in Stone Mountain on October 19. The award honors physicians who demonstrate a love for the community outside the regular scope of practice.
In nominating the retired Savannah neurologist for the award, Georgia Medical Society (GMS) Executive Director Ca Rita Connor noted that, “Dr. Rosengart has served as a judge for the Georgia Medical Society’s Health Care Heroes award program in Savannah for 20 years.”
Dr. Rosengart went into private practice in Savannah in 1966. He became Memorial Medical Center’s director of medical education in 1973 – going on to serve as Memorial’s vice president of medical education and medical affairs until 1995.
Connor points out that, “Dr. Rosengart oversaw the training of thousand residents, hiring new faculty members, expanding programs, and continually recertifying all of the residency training programs as well as ACGME accreditation for the entire system.”
It is also worth noting that Dr. Rosengart was honored with GMS’s Community Physician Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.
“There is no doubt that Dr. Rosengart has left an enduring legacy on the medical community in Savannah across specialties,” Connor concludes. “He enhanced the medical education and training system in important ways, and he expanded the physician workforce – which has resulted in better and more accessible care for the people who live in this community.”
Dr. Rosengart has a medical degree from State University of New York College of Medicine.
Dr. Rosengart lives in Savannah with his wife, Elaine Rosengart. They have three children – including Matthew Rosengart. M.D., Noel Rosengart, and Vanessa Bishop – and five grandchildren.
