Wellness Warrior
The Wellness Warrior Award is given to individuals across campus who are nominated by their peers for leading by example and inspiring through action as they work to create a healthier lifestyle.
The Wellness Warrior award for the month of August is awarded to Lola Alapo. Lola works for UT Public Safety/UT Police Department and has been a part of the UT family for 10 years! Some of her favorite hobbies include distance running, hiking, CrossFit, eating, cooking, baking, and meaningful time with friends.
We asked Lola what inspires her to make healthier choices and live a healthy lifestyle, and she shared that it's important to have a holistic approach to health -spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. "If one of those areas is out of sync, I don't feel and do so well. Physical activity is also a wonderful stress reliever for me." Lola also uses physical activity as a way to boost her social wellbeing; "I've had many important conversations with friends during walks and runs."
One of Lola's favorite memories is when she ran the Marine Corps marathon in October of 2019. "It rained heavily during much of the race and I was miserable and feeling sorry for myself until about mile 14 when a double leg amputee ran past me.That suddenly shifted my mood and my perspective. It taught me the value of pushing through and perserving in the midst of less ideal circumstances." Lola finished the race and has since applied that lesson of perserverance to other areas of her life.
