Immigration Tip
Take Care of Your I-20
Which of these best describes your I-20:

A.  My I-20 is stored in a plastic folder so it is clean and dry and I know exactly where it is.
B.  My I-20 is crumpled in my backpack somewhere and I can’t read it because it’s so wrinkled.
C.  My I-20 has a few stains and I try to take care of it, but sometimes I can’t find it.

Congrats to those who chose A! For those who need help taking care of their I-20, here are some pro tips:
  • Don’t carry around your I-20 daily. There is more risk that it will become lost or damaged.
  • Keep your I-20 and immigration documents in a waterproof plastic folder or binder.
  • Have a specific place where you keep your folder/binder so that you always know where it is. (Best practice: Keep it with your passport.)
  • Each time you travel internationally, check to see if you have a valid travel signature. Request an I-20 signature now if traveling soon.
  • When you travel, keep your I-20 and immigration documents with you. Do not put them in your checked luggage.
Ask an Advisor
Question: I’m graduating this semester and planning to start a new degree at another school in the US. What do I need to do with my I-20?
