Calendar Updates: Election Day (Nov. 3) and Thanksgiving Week (Nov. 23-27)
SLPS schools will be closed for Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020. More than half of our schools are polling places, and we expect significant traffic at those locations on Election Day.
Originally, students were scheduled to be out Nov. 3, 2020, but teachers were to engage in Professional Development at their schools. However, schools will now be closed.
Maintenance workers will not report to work that day. Custodial teams will be working in order to help ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing following voting. All 12-month staff will report to work.
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the District is adjusting the calendar to be closed the week of Nov. 23, 2020. Originally, students were scheduled to be in class on the Monday (Nov. 23) and Tuesday (Nov. 24) of that week. Now, all District schools and offices will be closed, and all staff will be off with pay Nov. 23-27.
Tips for Transitioning to In-Person Instruction
On Oct. 14, 2020, the Student Support Services team held a virtual workshop for families about transitioning from virtual learning to in-person instruction. They shared tips for families embarking on this big change. If you missed the workshop, you can see the presentation HERE.
